FYODOR GOLAN SS20

Updated: Aug 10, 2021

"We wanted to create hybrid identities for each look and reference historical and contemporary figures such as 18th-century rock star Farrinelli, the campy confections of Marie Antionette, prolific composer Mozart, the burning alchemy of Mina and the romantic violent sensibilities of Grimes.”

Remixing different music styles, from rock to classical compositions, led Fyodor Golan to create a very unique tribe of characters for Spring/Summer 2020. The design duo, Fyodor Podgorny and Golan Frydman, presented the new collection at Somerset House, during London Fashion Week, bringing dynamic energy and a feeling of positive individuality to the catwalk.

In terms of inspiration, music was only the starting point, as the collection refers to different themes including the iconic 60's figure Good Luck Trolls, the idea of pansexuality and the bedroom.

The result is an ode to freedom, individuality and diversity. Consequently, an aggressive approach draws attention to the garments, their make and construction, emphasising extremities and contradictions. That contrast can be found also in the mix of fabrications, weights and textures.

Willing to celebrate that feeling of positive individuality, Fyodor Golan collaborated this season with hair artist Johanna Cree-Brown, who created individual custom wigs for the models.

This sketch, created backstage, is part of my London Fashion Week SS20 live illustrated coverage for L'Officiel Italia.
