MINKI SS19

Updated: Aug 11, 2021

After last season presentation, I was looking forward to discovering the MINKI SS19 collection. The show took place in the British Fashion Council show space at The Strand and included a catwalk show, but also a more canon presentation, that allowed me to sketch the designs with less pressure.

Once I entered the show, I was amazed by the bright colours the models were sporting. Indeed, the MINKI SS19 collection is inspired by the Nigerian Balogun Market on Lagos Island, as described by Lorenzo Vetturi in his book 'Money Must Be Made'.

That's why the collection explores the 'randomness' of a marketplace, with its constant flow of people, voices and flavours. The colour palette is indeed vibrant than ever, with a wise mixture of reds, yellows, deep blues and creams, pinks and shades of white.
