"A Parisian maison, showing in London, inspired by New York".
The most interesting surprise of Day 2 of London Fashion Week: MM6 Maison Margiela welcomed guests to a fashionable maze, to present the new Autumn/Winter 2020 collection.
The concept of "circularity" is pivotal to the collection (with sculpted circle skirt and sweaters among the garments) and the show itself, part presentation, part catwalk show, part happening.
A custom vinyl recording welcomed the guests, who were invited to follow a network of paths, while models walked along, in order to reach a room where they would stand on pedestals. As an illustrator, that's the moment I enjoyed the most, as I could sketch with less pressure than usual, while models were standing beside me.
The maze eventually ended with the backstage, that served as the exit for this unique show.
The show debuted also a very special collaboration with outerwear specialists The North Face, meant to be a must-have for the cold season. The partnership sees The North Face signature Expedition System revisited in circular patterns peculiar to the MM6 Maison Margiela concept.
This sketch, created during the show, is part of my London Fashion Week AW20 live illustrated coverage for L'Officiel Italia.
