LUDOVIC DE SAINT SERNIN AW20

Updated: Aug 10, 2021

It is often said that hard times can make artists more productive as creativity becomes a way to react and to release all the dark feelings. That was the case also for the new offering by Ludovic de Saint Sernin, who recently experienced a breakup that became the first source of inspiration for his Autumn/Winter 2020 collection.

The Heartbreak Collection is a very cathartic moment for the young designer, who literally introduces his broken heart as an ongoing symbol during the show: as a ceramic chest plate, belt buckle and in a Swarovski crystal chain dress.

A separation may lead us to feel more fragile than before, but it is also true that it eventually brings more strength, from the ashes of a broken heart a new idea comes up: the Superhero. The designer keeps exploring dualities, the positive and negative of looks, the alias and the superhero, as two sides of the same coin that form our whole being.

This sketch, created during the show, is part of my Paris Fashion Week AW20 live illustrated coverage for L'Officiel Hommes Italia.
